Vincent Paronnaud | Marjane Satrapi | France | USA | 2007 | 96′
Graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi tells of her fascinating life in highly original fashion in this animated feature that’s amusing, engaging and accessible. While the young Marjane grows up in a communist family in Tehran, becomes politicized, discovers punk and ABBA, and rebels at college in Austria, Satrapi as director gently pokes fun at her youthful exuberance and innocence, making serious political points easy to swallow. Despite dealing with adult themes, there’s a delightfully childlike element to Persepolis and Satrapi is also very observant when it comes to gender relations, humorously describing her early fumbles with male students with a cunning eye for detail.
Mae’r nofelydd graffig Marjane Satrapi yn adrodd hanes ei bywyd rhyfeddol mewn dull gwreiddiol yn y ffilm ddigrif hon. O deulu comiwnyddol yn Nheran, i fiwsig pync ac ABBA, i wrthryfela yn y coleg yn Awstria – mae Satrapi’n gallu chwerthin ar ben ei ieuenctid ei hun. Er yn ymdrin â themâu oedolion, mae ‘na elfen o ddiniweidrwydd hyfryd yn yr adrodd.
