Eric Cantona in a Ken Loach film? Not the most obvious collaborators but this heart-warming tale of two very different Erics demonstrates a suprisingly fruitful and funny partnership. Steve Evets plays Eric the postman, a Man U devotee down-on-his-luck who hits rock bottom. But help is on its way when he receives spiritual guidance from his hero, footballing genius Eric Cantona. This has all the usual Loachian touches of gritty realism and dark humour with the added ingredient of Cantona’s self-depreciation, and is probably Loach’s funniest and most commercial film since Kes.
