Son of Rambow

Cert 12A

Garth Jennings | France | UK | Germany | 2007 | 95’

Set in the early 80s, this is a beautifully whimsical coming-of-age comedy. Shy, ten-year-old Will escapes the confines of a strict religious upbringing by re-enacting the macho exploits of Sly Stallone in the English countryside. He is recruited by Lee Carter, school terror and maker of bizarre home movies. Together the boys cheerfully set the screen on fire until Will’s smothering mum and her Plymouth Brethren threaten to pull the plug. A joyous spirit of mischief is ever-present and Director Jennings has an eye for brilliant visual gags too. The boys’ rapport feels totally authentic, so beyond the belly laughs and sunny 80s nostalgia, this is a portrait of friendship which is truly tender and moving. Tune in and let your inner child run amok.

Wedi ei osod yn yr 80au, mae’r comedi dod i oed hwn yn dilyn hanes Will, crwt swil deng mlwydd oed, sy’n dianc cyfyngiadau ei fagwraeth grefyddol lym i ailberfformio stynts macho Sly Stallone yng nghefn gwlad Lloegr. Mae’n gwneud ffrindiau gyda Lee Carter, a gyda’i gilydd ânt ati i greu ffilmiau cartref, gyda drygioni diniwed a chyfeillgarwch tyner yn llywio’r stori.
